Celebrating Volunteers
Volunteering for Hummingbird Cancer Support Group provides you with the opportunity to meet new people, give something back to the local community and discover who you truly are.
When working with people whose lives are affected by cancer you very quickly realise that these roles are as varied as they come. Our clients often claim that parts of their personalities and identities are affected, and we are there to help them rediscover their authentic selves, reclaim some normality (even just for an hour) and be made to feel like normal human beings. Compassion, gratitude, interpersonal skills, and patience are essential qualities we are looking for in our volunteer team.
June and July are the time of year to celebrate and recognise our volunteers’ work. It is Volunteer Week 1st-7th of June and Thankyou Day on the 2nd of July 2023. Volunteer Week is an opportunity to inspire people to volunteer, celebrate the commitment that volunteers undertake and ensure that people recognise the importance of volunteers in the local community. It is also a time for us to thank the volunteers that we have at Hummingbird Cancer Support Group because we couldn’t run our group without them.
